As homeschoolers, our lives are so full. Not only do we have to keep track of all our family’s appointments and activities, but we also have homeschooling to consider! So how do homeschoolers keep their lives in order? Many use a planner for homeschoolers. These will often fit a homeschoolers needs better than a regular planner.

If you’ve ever searched for homeschool planners on any search engine, you’ll know there are a literal ton of options. I have already laid out the options of online homeschool planners in another post. Here are the best options for paper planners for homeschoolers.

What is a homeschool planner?

A planner for homeschoolers helps homeschool parents organize their lives. Most homeschool planners have areas for organizing your monthly, weekly and daily calendars as well as organizing your homeschool days. There are also usually areas for homeschool lesson planning and homeschool records.

What should be included in a planner for homeschool?

Every designer has different ideas of what should be included in a planner for homeschoolers. And you may have your own opinions as well. Some common items may include:

What is the best homeschool planner?

Just like every designer has opinions on what should be included in a planner, every homeschool parent also has opinions. So what is considered the best homeschooling planner is going to be different for each person. Your likes and needs will be different than someone else’s.

The list below includes a lot of different homeschool planners and it hardly scratches the surface of what is actually out there. While variety gives options, it also brings decisions. So I hope this list of paper planners and all the info included will give you a good idea of what will be the best option for you.

Why use a paper planner?

With so much of our world becoming consumed by digital everything, one of the last holdouts for many is the paper planner. There is much convenience in a digital planner, but why do so many still prefer paper planners?

Here are a few reasons why you may want to consider sticking with a paper planner:

• The act of physically writing things down engages the brain differently than typing
• Writing by hand helps you slow down and focus
• You can remember things better when writing by hand
• No distraction by all your digital notifications
• There’s something about holding it in your hands….
• Requires no internet or electricity
• No worry over hacking, computer viruses, or down servers
• Backups or software upgrades unnecessary
• No online privacy worries
• So many options!

How to choose a planner for homeschoolers

When choosing your planner for homeschool, there are a few things you may want to consider. Some of these things include: 

• Cost
• Layout (monthly, weekly, daily)
• Format (dated/undated)
• Size
• Ordering and shipping difficulty
• Quality (printing, paper, binding)
• Features
• Customization ability

In this post, I’ll touch on the basics of each planner. Almost every one of them is an outstanding planner for homeschooling! For more information on each planner, follow the link in that section for a short review.

So without further ado, here is my rundown of paper planners for homeschoolers!

1. Well Planned Day Homeschool Planner

The Well Planned Day Homeschool Planner is a really popular planner among homeschoolers made by Well Planned Gal. It is a great planner for those who not only like to track their child’s daily assignments, but also set up a fairly thorough plan for the year.

Changes to the planner in the last couple years includes removal of scripture and the Bible reading plan. Probably to appeal to a broader audience. They now offer this list in a downloadable form.

More planning pages have also been added. Along with a lot of online resources. So if you think you liked it before, it seems to get better every year!

2. Anna Vance Homeschool Planner

The Anna Vance Homeschool Planner is a lovely planner for homeschoolers. There are so many page options available to include, and it is highly customizable!

This planner is designed from a Charlotte Mason perspective, which can be hard to find. While the layouts are simply designed, this is a very thoughtful planner for intentional planning.

The Day by Day Homeschool Planner is another take on a homeschool planner by Well Planned Gal. This more basic planner is good for tracking without all the detailed planning pages.

The Plum Paper Homeschool Teacher Planner is one of the most customizable planners out there for homeschoolers. There are several layouts to choose from as well as cover, binding, and size options.

This planner for homeschoolers comes with a set of basic homeschool tracking pages. You also have the ability to add on other personalized planning sections.

14. A Plan in Place Homeschool Teacher Planner

The Homeschool Teacher Planner from A Plan in Place is a full-size planner made by a homeschool family small business. Some parts of the planner are able to be personalized, including the cover.

15. Schoolnest Homeschool Lesson Planning Notebooks

The Schoolnest Homeschool Lesson Planning Notebooks have several variations available with wonderful minimal pages and a bullet-journal-like feel. While you can’t customize the printing, these planners have a lot of ability to be customized at home.

16. Happy Planner Homeschool Planners

Happy Planner seems to change their homeshool offers each year. But when you see one, you should buy it, as they always seem to sell out quickly!

Happy Planner currently offers Homeschool Extension Packs in two sizes with a few pages and accessories for homeschool planning. In the past, they have released a full-year “big” size Wake Up and Teach Homeschool Planner, though it is becoming hard to find. It seems to have been replaced by their Big Homeschool Layout in the Subtle Sophisticated Happy Planner, which is very similar.

The Wake up and Teach Homeschool Planner is a basic 12 month planner with disc binding and teaching themed dividers. It is 8.5×11 and plastic discs are included.

The Homeschool Planner Extension Pack comes in 4 month packs with around 100 undated pages, dividers, and stickers. Happy Planner discs for binding are not included with this pack. It is 7×9.25. There is also now a homeschool accessory pack in the “big” size with folders and stickers. 8.5×11.

The Erin Condren Homeschool Planner is a new planner design from Erin Condren as of 2023. Erin Condren planners are some of the most well-made and popular planners out there.

This homeschool planner uses very high quality materials and the pages are all well-designed. It currently comes only in an undated spiral-bound version with limited cover options.

This 7 Step Homeschool Planner has a large variety of layout options for homeschoolers. You can literally download a complete customized planner from her site, cover to cover, for free.

Bonus: DIY options

No post about planners would be complete without discussing do it yourself versions, or DIY planners. This option, of course is so broad that it is unable to put boundaries for price on it. It can be done fairly cheaply if needed.

I have had a DIY planner for several years and it has always been what I come back to in some form.

You can design your own on the computer then print it, or just use sticky notes and note cards! Many use a basic spiral notebook with a checklist. No one says a planner has to be fancy as long as it works for you!

If you want to get fancy, there are other great options, including printing free printable planning pages. There are so many options on the web! I even have some.

Another very popular planner option is the Bullet Journal. You can get as basic or fancy with this as you like.

Which will you choose?

Choosing a homeschool planner can be an overwhelming decision. There are a large amount of planner options for homeschoolers. Even though one may be popular it may not be the right one for you. Hopefully this article has given you some good options to find the best homeschooling planner for you!
