6 easy tips to start your day

Here’s a couple tips to start your homeschool day on the right foot.

1. Use a realistic start time that works for you.

You don’t have to start at 8am or anytime in the morning. If afternoons are better, do that. If you just need 30 minutes of peace after breakfast, wait till then. Take note of patterns in your day to help make your schedule.

2. Give a 5 minute warning.

Sometimes all your kids need is a notice that change is happening soon to help with the change. If 15 minutes is better, do that. You can also play a song as a notification that you’ll be starting soon. When the song ends, it’s time to start.

3. Attach your first thing to an already established habit.

If you are good at getting breakfast on the table and everyone sits and eats, start school then. It’s always hard to corral the kids, so try to keep them together when possible. Then have a short break afterwards.

4. Use a timer or alarm.

If you need 30 minutes after breakfast, set a timer for 30 minutes. Then start. If you want to start at 9, set an alarm. Just try not to snooze!

5. Diligence brings consistency.

If you keep doing it, it gets easier. Simple as that.

6. Give yourself grace.

This is homeschooling, not schooling at home. You can do things on your own time, chaos and all. You set the rules! So if something doesn’t work for you, understand it’s just not right for your family and adjust it till it works!
