The Woodland Animals Homeschool Planner is the first planner from Homeschool Planning Co. (This is a different company than my site! 🤪) This undated homeschool planner includes the essential planner pages in a disc-bound system with tabbed dividers. The cover and tabs have cute wildlife on them, giving the name to the design.

The planner is a nice size, 7 x 9.5″, which makes it not too cumbersome to carry around but not so small it will be easily lost. The cover of the Woodland Animals Homeschool Planner is a sturdy laminated cover with a fox on it.

The planner has disc binding, which gives the planner great versatility as you can remove or add pages easily. But the pages don’t easily fall out. Their site says it “Flips like a spiral bound. Customizes like a 3-ring.” I have found this to be true. I personally love disc-bound planners, so this is a win for me! Black plastic discs are included with the planner.

There are 6 tabbed dividers included in the planner, one for each of the monthly sections. Each divider has a cute woodland animal nature scene, with animals like raccoons, deer, bunnies, and foxes. Dividers come with blank tabs, but monthly stickers are included, so you can customize your planner to the months needed.

The front section of the planner includes a few basic pages for your homeschool plans and records. These are:

  • Year at a glance
  • Attendance
  • Basic tracker chart
  • Curriculum progress chart
  • Weekly schedule
  • Dot-grid page for notes

All but the year at a glance page have 3 copies each. This makes me think the planner is designed for 3 kids.

I will add here that these pages are very basic and honestly it does not seem much thought or care was put into their design. The tracker page is weird, with 27 small rows and 4 columns. I am unsure how to use this page as a tracker.

Also, the attendance sheet looks like an after-thought. Not only is it facing an awkward direction to be used, but the back of it was left completely blank, unlike other pages that had a dot-grid pattern. It also seems to be printed on a different paper than the rest. These are problems that could be have been easily fixed.

There are 6 monthly sections in this planner. Each section is divided with a tabbed divider and includes the following pages:

  • Monthly overview dashboard
  • Monthly calendar (Monday start)
  • 5 weekly spreads, with Monday start

The weekly spreads have cute clip art animals at the bottom and there is one homeschooling/education quote at the bottom of each month. There is room for some notes.

The weekly spreads have 7 columns, labeled with the days of the week. There are 3 rows. To me, you could use one row for each child, or you could use it more visually, dividing your day into three chunks. Of course, if you only had 1-2 kids, more options would arise.

Overall impressions

The quality of the planner is a mix. The cover and tabs are well-made. The disc punches and discs seem to be quality. However, there is a mix of paper used. That issue along with the random blank pages and the attendance sheet facing awkwardly inward toward the binding, it feels to me like the planner was just thrown together without much thought.

My overall impression of this planner is hugely underwhelmed. I really wanted to like it, as I love disc bound planners. The cover and tabs are also cute and well-made. However, the actual pages of the planner – the important part to me – are very basic. I would love to see more time spent on these pages to make it more unique!

The fact that there are only 6 months in this planner makes the almost $40 price tag way too high, especially with the lack of other uniqueness to add value.

There is a digital version available of this woodland animals homeschool planner, which seems to be more affordable, allowing you to plan on the go. A bundle version with both digital and physical versions is also available.

Shipping is fairly standard. Here is the shipping statement: “Products ship within 2 business days using USPS. Shipping rate is $5 for all orders under $45 and free with orders of $45 or more.”
