The 10 absolute best places to buy homeschool curriculum

Buy homeschool curriculum from Rainbow Resource Center

1. Rainbow Resource

2. Christianbook

Christianbook is a major online distributor of Christian books and gifts. They carry everything from Bibles to music to gifts, toys, and even homeschool curriculum! Christianbook was started over 40 years ago by two teenagers and now employs over 600 people, carrying more than 500,000 products.

Christianbook carries most of the major brands of homeschool curriculum and supplies so you will often be able to get what you need in one place! They do focus on Christian products, so they do not carry some brands that are overtly secular, or brands that do not use distributors.

Prices on curriculum are competitive, but watch for sales to make those prices even better! They often run sales and give offers for free shipping if ordering a certain amount.

Many homeschoolers buy homeschool curriculum from Christianbook. You should check out their selection for your next order! Follow this link to see their store.

Buy homeschool curriculum and teacher supplies from mardel christian and education

3. Mardel

Mardel Christian and Education is not only a large online distributor of Christian books, but also has 39 brick and mortar stores in the US. Mardel carries the typical Christian books and gifts, as well as a very large section of educational books and supplies. This is a great place for teachers of all sorts to shop. They also carry a large selection of homeschool curriculum.

From stickers, to decor, to books and other teaching supplies, Mardel is a fabulous store to browse many of the major brands of homeschool curriculum. It’s a real treat to be able to shop for homeschool supplies in person, and Mardel offers that chance.

For brick and mortar locations as well as browsing their online selection, check out this link to Mardel.

Amazon sells homeschool curriculum and books

4. Amazon

We all know Amazon as a one stop shop for most everything. Buying homeschool curriculum is no exception. Many publishers will sell their stock through an Amazon store. You also can easily find used curriculum through Amazon’s third party sellers.

I especially love to find reading books on Amazon. You can often find a reader both new or used, and often even on Kindle or even the audiobook version on Audible! There is something for everyone.

Pricing of homeschool curriculum is hit or miss on Amazon. You may often find normal retail prices for curriculum, while other times, a third party seller may significantly mark it up.

Buying used through Amazon’s third party sellers is a great way to keep homeschooling budgets happy. But be sure to look at the condition of the product in the listing if it has one. I have sadly learned the hard way and bought some workbooks with missing pages and even writing in them. Cheap is not always better. But sometimes the risk pays off.

One last note on buying curriculum from Amazon. I recommend starting your research on curriculum elsewhere, then using Amazon to compare prices as you are looking for deals. Not all homeschool curriculum is listed there, even some of the big companies! Though the ease of Amazon often overcomes any other obstacles.

5. Curriculum publishers

Who better to buy homeschool curriculum from than directly from the curriculum publishers? If you find a publisher you like, it makes sense to shop directly, and stick with their products.

Here are some of the top names in homeschool curriculum publishers:

**This list is nowhere near complete, just a few ideas to get you started!**

Some curriculum sellers don’t write all the curriculum themselves, but use various other companies’ curriculum and sell it all as a package. Then they come up with their own lesson plans of how to work through all the curriculum throughout the whole year.

Here is a list of companies that sell curriculum packages or plans from various sources:

6. Homeschooling websites

Another place to buy great homeschool curriculum is from homeschooling websites. These may include homeschool bloggers as well as online homeschool curriculum sites.

7. Curriculum fair or convention

One of my favorite opportunities to shop for and browse curriculum is to go to a curriculum fair or homeschool convention. I’m big about getting to hold the curriculum and flip through the pages, so being able to see many options in one day is fabulous.

For homeschoolers who have never experienced a vendor hall at a homeschool convention, they can be incredibly overwhelming. Think of a large convention center room with hundreds of tables of various homeschool vendors. Now not all of them are selling curriculum, but many will offer services and opportunities.

From individual curriculum publishers to large stores bringing their inventory, there is plenty to browse and discover. Every homeschool parent should experience this at some point.

And be sure to take advantage of the sales and coupons offered at convention. Many times the sellers will offer a discount for buying in person or give a coupon code for buying online.

You will find these vendor halls at homeschool conventions put on by large companies like Great Homeschool Conventions or Teach Them Diligently. You also can find these sales run by local homeschool groups and organizations. Check your area groups to find out what may be local to you!

8. Buy/sell/trade pages

An amazing place to buy or sell homeschool curriculum is on a buy/sell/trade page! You can find a huge variety of great curriculum at great prices. Of course most of it will be used. From nationwide groups, to online consignment companies, to your local groups, there are tons of options!

These pages are also great places to sell your used curriculum and recoup at least some of the money you have put into it. Some years when we’ve struggled financially, using these pages was the only way we could get by homeschooling.

Be sure you are being cautious in these groups though. Most people are legit and honest and make good deals, but there are occasionally scammers. Or other issues.

Also keep in mind that prices will include some sort of shipping costs and a prolonged shipping timeframe. These added hassles may keep some from selling or buying online, but if you’re willing to deal with it you can find some great deals!

Every group will have rules for you to agree to before joining so pay attention to those. Some even require certain payment methods be used for your protection. The most common in my experience has been Paypal due to their purchase protections.

There are several online consignment-type shops you can buy curriculum from. Here are a few:

There are also tons of Facebook groups that are just for this topic! Here are a few I’ve found:

Keep in mind that some of the larger groups can be harder to get popular curriculum as they may sell quickly. They can be very fast moving!

There are many smaller groups, as well as groups that are more specific, like for specific types, styles, or brands of curriculum. Here are some ideas:

As you can see there are lots of options for buying and selling online! And these lists are not nearly all of them. If you search in Facebook for groups on a certain brand or style, you’ll likely find one! Happy selling!

9. Local homeschool book sales

Many homeschool groups and co-ops offer annual book sales with homeschool curriculum and supplies. Local homeschool families can bring their books to sell and then buy new books for next year! This is an amazing way to save a little money each year on homeschool curriculum! No shipping hassles required!

One of the best ways to find out about these sales these days is to join a local homeschool group on Facebook. You may search for your city or county along with “homeschool”. Hopefully you will find options to join.

These pages will help you find all the great resources in your area. Not just book sales, but perhaps local stores and even co-op and field trip opportunities! You may also be able to find these groups by searching google or through a homeschool friend.

And keep in mind that if there isn’t a local sale in your area, you can start one! Pick a date, gather some friends, and get your own sale going!

10. A bookstore near you

Is there a bookstore or homeschool store near you? Check out google to find out the nearest location for a homeschool store. There aren’t a lot, but maybe you are one of the lucky ones! These stores are often filled with homeschool curriculum and supplies you can buy, as well as workers you can speak with about homeschooling and what options may work well for you.
