Every year when November fades into December, something shifts in our homeschool.
The calendar fills. The cookie tins come out. The kids suddenly remember every holiday tradition we’ve ever done, and want to do all of them right now. And meanwhile, the school books are still sitting on the table, quietly whispering, “Um… hello?”
It’s usually about this time when many homeschool moms start feeling torn between two extremes:
Should we keep going with “regular” school,… or take a break and just enjoy the season?
And honestly? Both options can feel wrong in their own way.
Push through, and everyone ends up stressed.
Take a full break, and the guilt creeps in.
It’s no wonder so many of us feel stuck.
But over the years, through trial and error (and a lot of holiday picture books!), I’ve learned something important:
Holiday homeschooling doesn’t have to be all or nothing.
There is a gentle middle ground. A calmer, simpler way to approach these weeks without losing your rhythm or your joy. A way to let learning continue while still slowing down enough to notice the twinkle lights and the wonder in your kids’ eyes.
That’s what I’m sharing in my newest guest post as part of the Homeschooling Through the Holidays series at Hope in the Chaos. It’s full of encouragement, mindset shifts, and practical ideas to help you breathe a little easier this season. No pressure, no perfection, just honest thoughts and ideas.
And while you’re there, I’d encourage you to check out the other posts in Kelly’s Homeschooling Through the Holidays series. It’s full of encouragement and creative ideas for making this season more peaceful and meaningful, not just busy.
If you’re craving a more peaceful, intentional December, I think this will speak right to your heart.
